Dr. Zitao Liu serves as Associate Chief Medical Officer at IRFC and is currently accepting new patients. A rising leader in reproductive medicine, Dr. Liu has established himself as a pioneer in the development and refinement of mild stimulation IVF protocols — an approach that thoughtfully reduces the hormonal burden on patients while preserving — and often optimizing — clinical outcomes.
Dr. Liu brings a forward-thinking perspective to fertility care, integrating artificial intelligence and data analytics into diagnostic and treatment planning processes. His work reflects a broader belief: that precision medicine — the ability to tailor every decision to the individual patient's biology — represents the future of reproductive medicine.
Beyond his technical expertise, Dr. Liu is known among patients for his patience, clarity, and willingness to take time explaining complex concepts in accessible terms. He treats each case as a unique clinical puzzle, approaching even the most challenging situations with methodical care.
Dr. Liu practices across IRFC's Southern California locations and is now actively welcoming new patients seeking a physician who combines clinical innovation with a deeply personal approach to care.
"Fertility medicine is at an inflection point. The tools we have today — from AI-assisted embryo assessment to precision mild stimulation — allow us to do more for patients with less, and more precisely than ever before."
— Dr. Zitao Liu
What Is Mild Stimulation IVF?
Traditional IVF protocols use high doses of hormones to maximize the number of eggs retrieved. Mild stimulation IVF uses lower doses over a shorter period — reducing side effects, cost, and the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), while producing fewer but often higher-quality embryos.
For many patients — particularly those with PCOS, diminished ovarian reserve, or sensitivity to hormonal medications — mild stimulation offers a better physiological fit. Dr. Liu will discuss whether this approach is appropriate for your situation during your consultation.
